La Musee du Louvre is one of the world's largest museum that also is also considered to be a historical landmark. The Museum was established in 1792. The Louvre was built under the rule of King Philip Augustus. The Louvre was not originally planned to be a museum, the purpose of it was to protect the city from outside attacks. The entire building takes up 15 acres! Also this museum is home to approximately 35,000 pieces of art.
