La Grande Arches built at the end of the twentieth century is a modern arch. It was built by the order of President Francois Mitterrand in the 1980's and took a few years to build.The construction began in 1984 and was complete in 1989. The architect on this job was Johann Otto von Spreckelsen. La Grande Arches was built for the celebration of the 200th anniversary of the French Revolution. The Arch is 361 feet high and has a width of 348 feet.
The arch is big enough to fit the Notre Dame Cathedrale !
